The subject matter of my work is, essentially, a vehicle for conveying a strongly defined atmosphere,
an atmosphere of bizarre and deviant beauty: characters with surreal adornments presiding over scenes that conjure up images of 19th century decadence,
mirror reflected imagery of animals with embedded phallic and yonic shapes, where the erotic and the unsavoury cohabit a stylised world with a sense of the hyper-real.
There is also a thread of black humour running through my work, as evidenced in many of the work's titles.
The use of lipstick as a medium is through my acknowledgement that lipstick is used to draw attention to the mouth and, therefore,
being a strong signifier of erotic consumption.
24c gold leaf is applied to various pieces to reinforce the decadent atmosphere.
Over time my work has progressed and taken on a more surreal and dark fairytale-esque quality,
working more in pencil, allowing for much greater detail in the pieces.
